Downtown River Trail

The River Trail is a great soft-surface route that follows the North Concho river near downtown San Angelo. This trail winds along the river past the YMCA, Celebration Bridge, and the downtown Holiday Inn. A great starting point is the Visitor's Center, which has public restrooms and a great view of the river.

Located at the end of Red Bluff Road on the banks of Lake Nasworthy, this is a great place to enjoy a relaxed run on the park's dirt access roads. Runners can extend their route by following the park roads out the back gate onto Twin Buttes road. Several races are held in this park each year, including a duathlon, triathlon, and the infamous Mud Run 5K.

This is the venue for the running club's Monday evening group workouts. Located just off of Knickerbocker Blvd. across from the KOA Campground, Gun Club is a 2.2 mile loop that offers runners several short but challenging hills. This is a great place to run multiple laps and get that hill workout in!

Located just across the lake from Middle Concho park, Spring Creek offers shady roads along the banks of Lake Nasworthy. This running venue is used for the Armydillo 10K and the Navy Cruise races each year. To get here, follow Kinckerbocker Blvd south past the Lake Nashworthy swim beach, and turn right on Fisherman's road.

The south gate of San Angelo State Park is located just outside of the city on FM 2288, and has over 70 miles of great trails to run. Although there are routes that will please runners of all abilities, serious trail runners will enjoy the Rollar Coaster loop that can be acessed from the Burkett trailhead. Ask for a trail map at the entry gate.

This road (closed to traffic) is on top of the OC Fisher reservoir dam. The dam road offers scenic vistas looking down on the lake, and it's a great place for intervals, tempo runs, or that long out-and-back workout away from traffic. The road begins by the State Park headquarters building just off of Mercedes road.
